Biography

Dr Sheyda Labbaf is currently an Assistant Professor in Biomaterials at the department of Material Science and Engineering at Isfahan University of Technology (IUT). She joined IUT after a Postdoctoral training on a collaborated project between University College London and Oxford University. Prior to this she received Engineering and Physical Science Research Council/EPSRC research funding to study her Ph.D at Imperial College London. She graduated from Imperial in 2012 with a Ph.D in Biomaterials and Nanotechnology with the focus on the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles and investigations on their interaction with stem cells in vitro for applications in tissue regeneration. In addition, she has participated in novel projects at Royan Institute of Biotechnology to pursue the field of tissue engineering.

During her academic career she received many awards including Larry Hench award for best PhD in Biomaterials in 2011 at Imperial College London and Lloyd’s of London Science of Risk prize for best-published paper in 2010. In 2014 and 2013 her publications received front covers of the Journal of Macromolecular and also Journal of Royal Society Interface, respectively.

       


She has an extremely multidisciplinary research field in biomaterials; nanotechnology; therapeutic nanoparticles; drug delivery systems; tissue engineering; cell responses to biomaterials; cell-material interaction. Her current research interests are focused on both high quality fundamental science and translation for human health.
